Well, havenīt done any research but it seems to me that the Vipera berus are quite frequent!
There is no law against snake keeping, still one should have permission... Very few hustle with the authorithies/permissions.
Donīt know if I misunderstood you... Sweden is a democracy.

: Pity the good social engineers there deemed all natives to be protected, surely some adder or colubrid lives in sufficient densities to have limited take. When you have non-native wildlife like your guardians...does the govt still have an interest in them (transport/sale/etc) or are they considered private property? Your lack of roadkills is interesting too???

: : Here in Sweden all wild snakes and lizards are protected. Besides, you can be happy, or sad, if you see a roadkill a year... And I wonīt pay 30 dollars for a meal of a live captive born snake or lizard... Rather force feed then. But the fish alternative could be a solution if heīs starting to refuse the mice and pinkies again.

: : : Peter, an easy solution is, you need to start offering this beast different prey, otherwise you risk losing it. The guardians eat a wide range of prey in the wild & have done so for a few million years or so, you probably want to quit fighting this & try & duplicate it. I find many snakes (not all) @ different stages of life insist on certain prey, they're hardwired for these. Offer it a good fresh roadkilled snake/lizard or fish & watch your fingers! Later, you can move it over to the proper captive diet of straight flagel & rats!!!

: : : : Hi, my eastern yearling has become a quite troublesome feeder... (mostly been difficult since I got him in march this year) He hasnīt been eating for a couple of weeks now!(no shedding on the way) I have to lure him when feeding him f/t mice but it takes a lot of time and effort and it doesnīt work every time... At first he seems to be interested but then something else comes to his mind! Several times last week I have failed and I had to throw the mice away... My other two eastern females and my kingsnake canīt eat them all! ;)

A few evenings(he usually wonīt take anything at daytime) ago I lifted his hiding place away and found him buried into the substrate and tickled him on the his back with the mouse, held with a plier, to get him curious. He hissed some and finally he came up striking repeatedly the mouse like a rattler but he didnīt take it, he was really mad! Maybe this was unwise of me but I have allways been gentle to him before and I liked to try! By the way, Iīm not looking forward to meet him in that mood when he is 6-7 feet long! ;)
