I got the Custom Cage's 4X3X2 size cage for my adult male. He uses every inch of it. I think that most all of the cage co's out there make good products, including Custom. I bought the Custom Cages Kit to make the cage. It's a lot cheaper to put it together. All you need are a few simple skills, like hamering a nail, drilling in wood scews and the ability to follow good instructions. It was so easy I decided to build my own cages from then on, using similar design as the Custom Cages design.
With Cusom Cages, you put ceramic light fixtures where you want to put them. I use a 100 watt spot for daytime and heat lamp attached to a baseboard thermostat to maintain might time heat. Both are attached to reostats. This requires some basic wiring knowledge. You could probably get a "do-it-yourself" book about basic wiring if you aren't confident about working with electrical stuff. I am NOT a handyman type and I was able to put all this together. So I'm sure just about anyone can.
My overall opinion on Custom's is it's a solid, well designed product. It looks good and assembles easily. The downside is that visibility is somewhat limited (like the snake is out much to be seen anyway). If the cage is on the floor, getting an adult indigo out of the cage can be tough (I now use a snake stick).
Male indigo have very large home ranges in the wild and having the space to move around is important. Whatever cage you get, I would suggest at least 4X3 for your floor space for a big adult male.
I hope the Vision cage users speak up so I can hear what they have to say.
Hope this helps,
Doug
: I am considering a Vision cage for my Indigo, as he has outgrown his current 48" x 18" cage. I've viewed the Vision cages on the net and am wondering about light and heat sources. As they are molded, how does that system work? I see there are formed areas that appear to be for lighting etc., but its not clear to me.
: If someone uses these cages could you tell me a bit about setting them up with light and heat.
: I'm also considering Cages by Design and Custom Cage options. If anyone has thoughts on these as well, I'd be interested in experiences.
: Much thanks,
: Melanie
