: Just me verifying what I read on an online caresheet, before I apply it to the snake.
: I have read that juvinials and neonates can be fed every 6-7 days, and that adults should be fed every 8-10 days. Does this sound about right? The reason I am confused on this, is I keep reading that Indigos have an extremely fast motabolisum, but my kingsnakes eat more often than this schedual. Is it because the Indigos will become larger than my kingsnakes, or do Kingsnakes have an even faster metabolisum?
: Thanks for the info

Jason,
In my Opinion, Eastern Indigos snakes have a much faster metabolism than kingsnakes. Think about it, they eat a wider range of prey in the wild(Amphibians, mice, other snakes, lizards) and are a large active snake. I would feed the juveniles every 6 days and the adults every 8 days. I tend to feed fairly heavy, but find that with Easterns at least, if you feed to heavy and pump the snake FUL to max, you can get regurge if conditons are not optimum(Temp) Besides it is not really very good for the snakes. I feed a moderate diet every 8 days. This puts them into a shed cycle once every 30 days if they are juveniles, and once every 40-45 days if they are adults. you can factor the shed time as a "down time" that you dont have to feed in, although they often WILL feed while opaque. I try to let them go through the shed and THEN offer them food when they come out of it. Your adult kingsnakes shouldnt be fed more than once every 7 days, other wise they tend to grow to fast and become obese in the end.
