I have a feeding schedule that varies depending on age, sex and breeding.
There are 2 times when I feed an indigo almost all it will eat: Young indigos and Females approaching breeding season.
My adult male indigo was getting a little plump, so I have cut back on his meals. I have only given him 4 medium sized meals this year. He simply doesn't have the need for lots of food.
On the other hand, a female that I got last year that was quite underweight (too skinny) got fed 2 times a week or as soon as she pooped, she got another meal. This got her close to or at breeding weight. Now both females I have are soon to be dropping eggs (I think). After they drop their eggs, one gets a year off from breeding and the other will breed next year. Next years breeder will pretty much get all the food she wants. The female getting the year off will go on a routine more like the male's.
Here's a basic rule I try to follow, if it's putting fat on the snake, not overall growth, but FAT, it's getting too much. If a female is going into breeding season, I allow her to get a little chubby.
If you have the indigo simply for a pet, there is no need to feed it all it will eat. An adult pet indigo (or any adult male) doesn't need all that much food anyway.
Good luck,
dt
