I have a Texan ("Shadrack Meshack the Indigo") that I got about 2 weeks ago. Shad's really neat - a yearling (I'm told) about 36-38" long, great disposition & has already eaten twice (I waited to make sure the plumbing was working before offering the second meal).
Sooner or later, though, I'm going to have to have an Eastern (HINT HINT to lurking spouse who also reads this forum). It would be an appropos gift for our Halloween anniversary, don't you think? Aren't snakes the classic fifth anniversary gift? No?
I've been reading this forum daily for a couple of months - ever since I met the Eastern here at the zoo where I volunteer (I was captivated). I was under the impression that they were not allowed as pets at all anywhere. I've been glad to learn otherwise.
I'm planning to go to the La. Gulf Coast Herp Soc. meeting in March; I'll try to pin down the details of any local regs while I'm there.
Thank you to all of you who are lending your expertise to us, the novices.
