: I know it seems stupid on the surface, but the reasoning behind stems from the fact they are a protected species. If it were legal to keep TX indigos in TX, it would be very tempting for folks in TX to continue to take them from the wild to breed, or to sell as captive born. It would be almost impossible to police. This way, if you have TX indigos in TX, you are breaking the law, cut and dry.
: It’s a shame for the responsible people. But it does protect them from over-collection in my opinion.
: On the plus side…there are no state laws in TX about Eastern or other subs of Drymarchon. Federal laws of course apply to easterns, but you can get a permit easily enough.
