: This species is probably much less understood, bred or researched than the Eastern. From reading this board I would think there are no more than 20 or so successful breeders in the States. And since it is illegal to collect or own them in TX, this makes it difficult- Permits are NOT granted by TX. Although my experiences here indicate there are thousands more TX Indigoes in the wild than Eastern in their locales. This is true because there are still fairly vast areas of S.TX undeveloped compared to GA and FL. Gimme some feedback and tell me if my surmises are faulty- dont worry I have tough skin.:)
texas has a completely different conservation mentality than florida. a lot of the people in florida now are not from that area or even from the south for tht matter. florida sold out a long time ago and they didn't have 'that' much to sell. by comparison, i once drove thru texas on a 45* angle and like roseanne roseannadonna used to say, 'i thought i was gonna die!' my ankle got so tired from holding the gas down that i had to stop and get a rock to put against the pedal. i just couldn't take it anymore! lol. texas is just so mammoth it would take another 300 years of constant building to 'catch up' to florida. but most of the folks who live in texas were born there and therein lies the difference. because of it the texas indigo lives relatively undisturbed compared to his eastern cousin who is fighting a losing battle..
