: I have an aquaintance who owns a very strange D.c.couperi. It has the head size and girth of a 7 foot snake but is only 3 feet long. He told me it was a "dwarf". I'd never heard of this kind of aberration before. I'd seen small adult individuals of a species but never anything like this indigo. It appears as if someone removed the middle 2/3 of its body and stuck the pieces back together. Anyway, I'm going to try and pass by his place later this week and maybe I'll get some pics to share.
Another "dwarf " story....
I am a vendor at MANy of the reptile shows in southern california(I.R.B.A. shows)
A good friend of mine, Rick Treeney from Renegade Reptiles went to Daytona and saw an Eastern Indigo(male) that was 2 1/2 ft in length, but that had the girth of a 7 ft Eastern indigo. The way he described it to me, the snake appeared as if the head portion was connected with the tail portion with no real body to speak of in between. He almost brought it back for me, just as an oddity(When I dont go to the show, my good friends "scout" the table for what I want and ship it back.:)
In this case..I am really glad that he didnt.
Couldnt/wouldnt use it for breeding stock.
And wouldnt display it lest people get the idea that I was produceing defective snakes.
It would have ended up in the freezer.
So, yes, it seems as some of these pop up every year, as long as we dont use them as breeding stock, no harm is done.
*cheers*
Fred
