: let me start by saying that Drymarchon are my favorite snakes. Nothing can compare. I have been checking out this forum for a while now and it seems that although there are not as many folks posting comments as in other forums, the people that do have a genuine love for the animals, relatively low egos, and a love for passing on the knowledge. Here's my query - What's up with yellow tails ? Why does it seem that Chuck Elliot was the only person who could successfully breed them? Why did Dominion Reptiles get rid of theirs (who they say they got from another breeder who was unsuccesful)? I have seen a wc pair try to acclimate to capitivity and I know it is a challenge, but is anybody on the verge of breeding these successfully? With Easterns and Melanarus being produced regularly, has anybody began to focus on yellow tails or Rubidous? Is it for a lack of animals, or are they just really hard to keep? I really like these animals and I just wanted to hear what efforts are being made to work with them.

Mike,

Chuck is, was and will always be, a good friend of mine. He is an truly awesome individual, and I have been blessed to learn much from him dureing the period he was heavily into Drymarchon. Eastern Indigos are not being produced in large numbers. Or even regularly by most folks. Yellowtails, on the other hand , usually are offered as W/.C adults with pathogens and nose rub. Frankly,I am not surprised that they dont produce for people, given their background.. As people produce c/b young and raise them up, I beleive you will see more c/b neonates offered for sale, which will in turn be easier to reproduce.
Chuck Elliot got involved in produceing Yellow tails MANY years ago, and the sheer number of animals he had made success more likely than the 1.1 or 1.2 Indigos that most people stake their luck on.
Dominion Reptiles? Didn't know they got rid of theirs, but if the pair they got didnt work for the person BEFORE them, then maybe they bought them thinking that they did(Theres a LOT of that in this industry, folks selling snakes that wont breed as DEFINET PROVEN BREEDERS)
Frankly , I dont know, but always had a lot of respect for Dominion ,FYI.
As far as Rubidus, I am working with them, or trying too. Again, an uncommon animal that hasnt been worked with as F2 captive generation that much. Bugs still to work out, even with C/b.
Most of the Yellowtails I see are on the net, almost always w/c, sometimes young or adults.
I dislike brokers, so I usually pass on them.
Once again...just MY opinion.

Take care,

Fred
