: let me start by saying that Drymarchon are my favorite snakes. Nothing can compare. I have been checking out this forum for a while now and it seems that although there are not as many folks posting comments as in other forums, the people that do have a genuine love for the animals, relatively low egos, and a love for passing on the knowledge. Here's my query - What's up with yellow tails ? Why does it seem that Chuck Elliot was the only person who could successfully breed them? Why did Dominion Reptiles get rid of theirs (who they say they got from another breeder who was unsuccesful)? I have seen a wc pair try to acclimate to capitivity and I know it is a challenge, but is anybody on the verge of breeding these successfully? With Easterns and Melanarus being produced regularly, has anybody began to focus on yellow tails or Rubidous? Is it for a lack of animals, or are they just really hard to keep? I really like these animals and I just wanted to hear what efforts are being made to work with them.
mike, i have pondered these same questions for a long time. i have acquired several yellow-tails [finally] but will not be breeding any this year. i do not believe that they are more difficult to keep or breed than other members of the genus but they do seem to need a LOT of room and be left COMPLETELY undisturbed. mine are all wc animals of different ages and are quartered in very spacious accomadations on aspen and w/ multiple hides and seem to be doing nicely. i don't anticipate any problems next year but who knows....they will be cycled the same as all my drymarchon and we'll just have to see. my unicolors are treated in much the same manner and breed easily. one of my uni females is already very heavy w/ eggs and will be laying very soon........i think that some other members of this forum will be attempting to breed their yt's this season though so more information should hopefully be forthcoming.
