I am new to this forum and am amazed at the wealth of info available. It amazing what can be achieved when people unite and share. Believe it or not I live in South Florida and really have a permit and do own a 5 month old male Eastern Indigo. I am a native of Hollywood where I grew up catching all types of lizards, turtles and snakes. I am appreciative enough to remember when you could catch Indigos down here. To own one is a dream. Having owned boas and pythons I am amazed at the charm of the Indigo. He is the coolest snake I know!
I have worked for the past ten years at an exotic animal hospital doing reptiles and avians. The best thing I can say is find a knowledgable reptile vet. They are vital in maintaining any animal. I hate the stereotype between the breeder and the vet. I wish their was a more active role between vets and breeders, a way to share more info. Their are so many great breeders (like the ones breeding our beloved Indigo) that can share. Could we find a way to eliminate IBD and other viruses in all snakes? I hope so, so thanks to the people that make this place so cool!
