Definitely hard to find one. Most work for the universities. If you live near a vet school inquire there. It wasn't until we hired one that I found one! There are alot of vets happy to take your money, but don't have any experience with snakes. Just read the posts, "my vet gave him one shot of Baytril" or "my vet said increase the humidity". It very scary and thats what give people a sour taste about going to a vet. Lots of $$$ taken but snake still dies.
As for the permit, I can honestly say it wasn't difficult. I have vast experience with reptiles, vet medicine as well as some wildlife rehab work. All that helps, but I got him for education. Unfortunately due to all the *$%#ing New Yorkers and Canadiens down here people don't know much about Indigos. They don't give permits for "pets", but if you have some background and are willing to spend time educating then there is a possibility. Just try, you won't know until you do. GO CANES!
