Hi There;
With Winter approaching here in eastern Canada I'D GLADLY trade places with you. It's too bad you can't keep Indigos down there, but if you want to observe them (from a distance)a lot of the locals have seen them around Myaka (sp?) State Park in the Sarasota area. I visit friends down there every fall. I've seen them around Venice in the dryer wooded areas. One HUGE male lives under a guy's Pine Tree, has been there for years, they suspect he's about 7 & 1/2 feet. I haven't seen him yet after 4 trips down there but I'm told, the guy's Grandchildren feeds this thing hot dogs. I Have seen the skin sheds he keeps in his garage & it IS definatley that of an Indigo. Their thrilled to have him on their property because he does 'rattler patrol' for them in an area where there's quite a few Eastern Diamondbacks & Pigmy rattlesnakes.
They really are an impressive site, BUT as Dean Alessandrini indicated in his post to Beth, DON'T touch!!! I spoke with a Fish & Game Warden @ one of the Parks down in Fla. & there's a $500 fine for 'harassing' an Eastern Indigo.
If you wanna touch em, ya gotta come visit one of us guys & you can handle ours LOL. They really ARE the King of snakes in my books!!!
If you ever leave Florida, betcha I know what your 1st snake purchase will be ;-)
Cheers
Dean
