In Reply to: Should I put a moss filled sweater box in my enclosure?.... posted by jason yanofsky on October 31, 2001 at 17:15:23:
I use damp peat moss, not sphagnum. The peat is a little messy, but once it been tapped down by the snakes, it's never a problem. I add water until it's just barely damp throughout the hide box.
It is rather acidic and keeps bacteria growth down. It provides a dark and humid "burrow". My indigos are in it every night. The snakes also haven't had a bad shed ever since I put the damp peat in the hide boxes.
It isn't something that you NEED to have in there, but for me, it's something that helps a ton.
