In captivity, babies are very secretive and usually don't eat in front of you. My adults...well, it's like they see the rat in your hand and think to themsevles, "there's the guy that always catches the rats...if I'm aggressive enough, I can STEAL it from him"!
Literally, they come AFTER you trying to rip the rat out of your hand, many times b4 you can get it into the cage. It's rather entertaining, but watch your hands, and never "lead" with your face when looking into the cage. They get that look in their eye and WATCH OUT!
Mine never "beat it up" too much, since I always feed thawed frozen, but grab aggressivley, thrash around a bit, then try to swallow as fast as they possibly can in the hopes more is coming !
