: Remember that indigos are not constrictors, they overpower their prey with jaw strength and weight. If you feed live to an indigo, they will thrash the prey around to kill it.
: I quit feeding live to my indigos when the male almost broke the glass on the front of his cage tossing the live mouse around. Now, like Dean, I only feed prekilled/frozen-thawed to my indigos. They still aggressively attack the prey, but they dont do the thrashing behavior that a live prey item would ellicit.
My Eastern adults till pin and grab their prey, whether dead..or alive.
I too feed only pre-killed,never frozen.
with live rodents the snakes grab the rodent, pin it to the side of the cage and will knock over the waterbowl or anything else while they are eating.
They watch you approaching the cage...
with the rat in your hands....
Watch out when the cage door opens.
these guys are very hearty feeders.
