8 eggs how do I tell if they are fertile

Hi folks, My Female laid 8 eggs yesterday. Various shapes and sizes. I had a nesting box with vermiculite which is where she laid her clutch. My question is, would she lay this many eggs if she was never "fertilized"? I've tried numerous times to have her hook up with my male but I never saw the completed act. Nor have I seen it even being close. Usually, the male was all over her, but she just wouldn't give it up. 2 years ago she laid 3 infertile eggs. That didn't suprise me. 8 eggs ? Thats an awful lot of eggs. What do you think? What would be the first sign of a infertile egg?
