: Venomous reptiles are already banned in some states and in my state there are those who would ban all reptiles. Once the venomous law is in place, it is only one more step to change the law to read any animal with a certain gland whether that gland produces anything dangerous to anything larger than an earthworm or not.
While the possession of a gland, one which produces toxins that unquestionably -are- venom in some species, might not be a valid criterion, using whether or not an animal is dangerous to humans as your means of determining venomousness is clearly incorrect. But that looks like the direction you're headed here. And if we're looking for an accurate description, whether that description is politically prudent or not is simply irrelevant...
