: : I have to answer this question. I don't usually reply to most of the questions but this one needs a reply.
: : I have a little experience with Drymarchons. I have bred and raised every subspecies of Drymarchon known.
: : I have been bitten more times than I care to remember and I have never had a reaction to a bite.
: : The worst case would be an infection due to germs and bacteria in the saliva. There is no venom in Drymarchon.
: : Good luck in your class.

: Water snakes (Nerodia) have anti-coagulant properties to their saliva . Possibly the teacher in question is confused on his species. To the guy mentioning a backdoor way of banning herps...LOL come on any theories on JFK as well. Every question asked on these forums don't always have a motive of destruction lets not be ridiculous. Yeah i know that some of the laws being pushed are ridiculous but lets keep the doomsday talk for real problems being faced by herpers not some kid talking about what he heard in class.

My reply was not to the kid. It was to the guy pushing the point to the ridiculous. The person who asked the question got sincere answers from several very experienced people including me. Venomous reptiles are already banned in some states and in my state there are those who would ban all reptiles. Once the venomous law is in place, it is only one more step to change the law to read any animal with a certain gland whether that gland produces anything dangerous to anything larger than an earthworm or not. If you don't believe it, take a look at the gun laws and the smoking laws. I don't smoke, but if they can ban smoking outdoors, what makes you think they can't ban reptiles. Just by labeling certain rifles as assault rifles they have changed public opinion alot. Labeling garter snakes and Indigos as VENOMOUS reptiles is not wise or practically accurate in my opinion.
