: According to an article I have in an old Vivarium...........these are "post-copulatory plugs". Per the article, these are expelled once a year shortly after the first breeding of the year.
: The theory is that the plugs are produced by secretions from the males kidney following insemination.
: Two hypothesis were given for this: 1. Sperm retention in the female.
: 2. Impediment to further copulations by competing males.
: That's all I got! Hope it sheds some light.
