Owning an Eastern Indigo

A question for those knowledgable in the legalities of owning Eastern Indigos. Living here in California, would I have to possess a permit to own an Eastern, or would simply buying from a licensed breeder suffice??? Not really sure and have heard conflicting info so if anyone could clue me in I would appreciate it..
