DIY Terrarium Fogger [Pics]

A few weeks back I went ahead and bought one of those nifty ultrasonic mist-maker devices, and assembled my own "fogging device," which I would have to say turned out really well. Here's a few pics of what I came up with:

This is the fogger device, which I purchased for about $27 including tax and shipping from here.

I used the largest Tupperware container I could find at Target, which cost a whopping $3.50. If you are looking for containers, your best bet is to find a container that is longer than taller. It should be at least 5" deep. The problem with getting too deep is that the "optimum" fog producing water level is when there is less than 2" above the top of the fogger unit. So basically wider is better. The wider, the less you have to fill it. With this container, and having it run for 8 hours a day (it is on a timer), I have to fill it about once a week.

Here you can see my ghetto-budget worksmanship. I can usually come up with something more clever than this, but, eh ... I slacked so sue me. =)

So basically, from left to right, is the air inlet tube, connected to a 200-gallon air pump. I bought the pump for $25 from Petsmart, I think. You can probably find it cheaper elsewhere. Then there's the power cord for the fogger. I had to drill a 3/4" hole in the lid to fit the cord through. Then to make it air tight, I used duct tape on both sides (duct tape rules), and some super-glue to seal it off. Finally are the two 3/4" tubes which serve as the fog-outlets. These tubes go to the back of my Vision enclosure, which, of course, required drilling two holes.

And finally, a few shots of the enclosure with the fog being pumped in:

So total cost comes out to about $55. Not too bad I don't think. BTW, the plants love the fog, and have been growing like crazy since I installed it. It keeps the humidity pretty jacked up too.
