A little explanation about the striking at the water...my Nerodia do this as well. The snakes are very visually oriented unlike many other snakes which rely largely on scent (although Natricines do rely on both, they normally seem to use visual senses first). The vibrations created by pouring the water are often reminiscent of the same created by a floudering fish or frog in the water. Thus the snake strikes at the water falling. Just thought I would explain it :)~< Andy
