I really haven't got a clue. Do I pick based on the memory, sentimental attachment to a collected animal, rarity? I don't know. but a few memories I guess do stand out above most others.
C.w.obscurus 1993 - two pregnant females under one rock and another pregnant female under another rock a few meters away.
L.g.californiae 2000 - found this one while raking through the bones of many dead cattle which had fallen into an abondoned leaching pit at an old mine site not too far from La Paz, BCS. The snake was found under a scapula.
C.l.klauberi and C.w.willardi 2001 - Not really a best herp, more like a best spot. At one time within a few meters there were two pregnant C.w.willardi, one pregnant C.l.klauberi, and a litter of 5 C.l.klauberi.
C.cerberus 2001 - The first cerberus hunting trip I took my girlfriend on. I described where we'd see the snakes and a few minutes later we found one in the exact situation I described to her. Even though the other snakes weren't in that type of situation it was the first impression that counted. Together we found five cerbs, four within the first 45 minutes of hiking.
E.m.webbii 1981 - To this day "Jaws" remains the largest alligator lizard I've ever seen in the wild. Finding Jaws was the end to a very good and very bad day. Throughout the day my father and I had found a bunch a C.v.helleri, Pituophis, Lampropeltis, Elgaria, etc. Everything was great until we stopped to check one spot near some bee hives. One bee took an interest in me. The bee was removed from my hair about four times before it got tangled and stung me. Finding and catching Jaws a few minutes later took my mind off the pain. Had him for about ten years.
