Those snakes were seen in the Huachucas. Unfortunately I wasn't quick enough to get to my camera before the neonate lepidus began to dive. I was too busy admiring the willardi when a friend I was with from out of state said something like, "There's a ball of baby snakes over here." My progressed was slowed as I neared my friend by the sound of a rattle coming from under a curtain of grass. Went around the sound of the buzz and made it to the ball of snakes just in time to see them scatter and start to disappear. True to form for many lepidus, the snake under the grass didn't stop rattling and so was pretty easy to keep tabs on and locate after seeing the babies. I returned to this spot a few weeks later and located the same adult snakes. This time my girlfriend ended up with the only shot of a different litter of klauberi. A blurry picture that shows a handful of small grey snakes scattering in all directions. From here on out I'll be checking that spot on a yearly basis (I hope!) to see if any snakes are using the area as a brood site.
