Vibrational communication is really quite usefull if you think about it. Chams on a plant can call out and immediately know if another cham is on the same plant/tree, without alerting predators. Chams are obviously adapted to concealment, even from other chams, and this form of communication has many (potential) uses. Vibrational "hooting" is probably quite important during mate acquisition, at least in C. calyptratus. Vibrational communication is only now being explored by the scientific community, and I'm sure much time and effort will be devoted to this form of communication in the future.
