: The low frequency sounds are more like vibrations that are more felt than heard.Necas says that sound is of little importance to them and I agree, they are very impaired, quite deaf in hearing as it may be compared in warm bloods.
No arguments from me on that. I do agree that it is so highly impared that it is almost usless as it would be difficult for them to hear anything of any importance. I mean, what are the chances of the frequency being right, etc. I think we're just disagreeing on a tiny difference, deaf vs. practically worthless and highly limited hearing.
: Necas also says that taste is rudementary as well.I wonder why they savor certain insects over others if they barely distinguish taste? Any thoughts?
Maybe it has to do with texture? There are certain things that I can't eat and others that I crave based only on the fact that I like/dislike the texture. I also feel that sight plays a large role as it might be ingrand into them that a certain type of prey from there country of origin is the food of choice and they favor similar foods. Also, sometimes we, and other animals, go instinctively for foods that are rich in exactly what our bodies need at the moment. Maybe they have unconciously figured out what foods are good for what and when a species requires more of something that others, they tend to favor the food that contains more of what they need. It would be interesting to find out why this favoritism occured. Any ideas though on how one would test such a question? I can think of a couple ways but they are pretty difficult and the findings could be argued. What are your thoughts?
