i would also look into a product made by behr @ homedepot its a 2 part mixture that applies in one coat that is equal to 50 coats its called Behr Build 50 comesin two quart cans you mix together it runs about $35 a set but is very durable and is also a Bartop coating for natural woods. As for a surface for a bottom i would look into using Laminates , they are available in a aray of colors and can be easily installed and will make any cleanup of urinates fecies etc rather easy and will resit scratching from claws and deteriation from substrates
