In Reply to: humidity, ultrasonic fogger idea!?!?! posted by EB924 on March 01, 2003 at 12:51:09:
To counter those suggesting a home-use humidifier, let me just toss out another suggestion.
I decided to build my own humidifier system using one of those drop-in ultrasonic foggers.
Here's all the materials needed to build it:
Fogger: $25
Biggest Tupperware container you can find (with water-tight lid): $5
Tubing: < $2
100 gallon-rated air pump: $20
Other stuff you'll need: silicon, drill, various sized drill bits, duct tape, your brain
Here's a picture of the tupperware container, filled with water, and the fogger.
Here's a close-up of the lid of the container, which I modifed, obviously.
The tube to the left is the tube which leads to the air pump (air flows IN to the container through this tube). The black wire is the power for the fogger. I had to drill a 3/4" hole to fit the end of the wire through. To make it air tight, I used duct tape and silicone to seal it off (a more sophisticated approach might have been using a rubber grommet). The two larger tubes are the outlets (or shall we say, exhaust pipes?) feeding the fog to my enclosure. I just found these tubes lying around my house. The two tubes run up to the back of my enclosure, which I drilled two appropriate-sized holes into.
Here's some shots of my enclosure with the fogger in action:
Hope this helps give you some more ideas! Let me know if you have any questions.
