In Reply to: HELP: Flexwatt, foil tape, and electric shock! posted by JoBaggs on July 29, 2002 at 00:01:08:
I've seen similar effects of being shocked when an electrical item is not properly grounded. Especially with florescent lights
since they use a stepup transformer and there is a lot of induction. My only thought was if there is a grounding plug and it is not grounded properly? Old 2 prong outlets can be fitted with an adapter that you screw the ground to the outlet. It's there for a good reason. It connects the ground to the neutral which is potentially the same as the ground. If this item is like most items with only 2 prongs, I'd be very cautious as it sounds rather dangerous. I hope it's teh first one as it can be corrected. good luck Thomas
:I have now rewired my most recent rack system (for the 2nd time)...problem is that the flexwatt is still randomly (not all the time) giving off a mild electric shock (can feel it to the touch).
:When I rewired it last night I plugged it in to test it prior to taping it down...no shock sensation was felt. I taped it in, and this evening, when I checked it, I could feel a slight electric shock.
:I cannot feel it through the rubbermaid containers (thankfully) and all of the snakes on this rack are feeding and acting normal...but I'd still like to remedy this problem.
:Is the problem in the wiring? Should I sodder the metal connectors?
:Is the problem in the foil tape (I did some research and saw some posts about this topic in the past...but I didn't really understand them...not an electrical enthusiast by employment or education)?
:Any help would be most appreciated. Email or post replys.
:Thanks in advance!
:Sincerely,
