I am not sure where the electric surge is coming from.
The connectors are covered with the normal plastic connectors. But at the other end, the cut end...thats where the problem might be!
The ends are not insulated (I've never had to do that before), so I am going to peel back some of the foil tape and insulate the ends with electrical tape and see what happens.
Also, should I be covering the enitre flexwat strip with foil tape, like a bed sheet covers a mattress (its early in the AM out here in the west...thats the best example I could think of)...where the tape not only covers the flexwatt but overlaps to hold it down on the melamine? That is how I've always done it and never had problems until this time.

Let me know if you have anything more for me...I'll repost if insulating the cut-end doesnt' work.
