Heating Question...

I use Zoomed and T-Rex under-tank heaters for my gopher snakes. I never unplug them and they run all the time, been doing this for a year now. Is this the wrong thing I am doing, should I unplug, if so when? The Incandescent lights in their cages are on timers, should I put the heat pads on timers also. In the instructions it says that the heat mats regulate their own heat, but I don't know if I should trust this. Thanks for any help.
