First of all you are absolutely right, the zoomed was hot as hell when I touched it. Thanks for the help, it just might have saved my snake's skin, no pun intended. I think I fixed the problem, but I would like to get you openion on it. I used some reflective tape to cover the glass on top of the heat pad, I turned it back on and it was still too hot, so I applied a second layer of tape and this time the temp was much cooler to the touch. On top of that there is two inches of substrate. I also attached the heat mat to a timer set to turn it on at night and off during the day. The light is set to turn on during the day and off at night, this way one side of the tank is alwayse heated. Do you think this will work? If not then I will get the flexwatt and a thermostat. Thanks for your help.
