There is much we still don't know about bp's. I would love to visit Togo, Ghana, etc. and actually study bp's in their natural habitat. There's no doubt in my mind that they do spend time foraging in low lying shrubs, bushes, trees, etc. They are powerfully built and would have no problem doing so. Unfortunately, we have little to go on so a moderate approach seems to work best. Very interesting stuff about the elapids. All of the elapids I have worked with did great on paper but I also know that if given mulch, the absolutely love to burrow into that stuff and may be a good way to acclimate imported specimens.
::of course all snakes would love to be housed in a natural setting cage...they love the textures and smells of real rock and plants and wood....even real substrate...
:friend has elapidae....some ate ok....then he placed them onto cypress or aspen..(made a difference to which one per specie..some prefer one or the other even)...
:some of the cobras ate like pigs now on the bedding....he then tired quickly of this messy idea..(hidden feces and urates under mulch making dried messes on cage floor)....and went back to paper....to his disgust...alot of the snakes stopped eating all together....he then yelled and moaned about how hard it was to clean paper messes...and switched back to mulches....and the snakes once again dug burrows and ate like pigs...
:I forget which species actually...i could find out if anyone i having trouble with a particular elapidae....
:as for the "'perch and ambush method of hunting prey"...I always said balls like to eat from above...and got slammed for it...people sying things like"""they are not tree snakes" " and they are not green tree pythons""...how do we knoe they are not tree snakes????anyone been to Togo or Ghana lately....?????
:unfortunately the men I work with that are from africa(Sudan refugees via ethiopia)....never been to Ghana or Togo either and really don't understand what info I want from them....LOL...(they do speak English)...

:the other reason o got slammed for the feed above idea was that I said to "hold the ball over the mouse and it will feed alot faster than to let the snake and mouse bump into each other and scare each other....(slammed because people didn't feel that holding a snake while feeding it is a good idea....)...(well it really isn't unless 1 you know your snakes 2 you are not afraid to get bitten 3 the snake is not a large adult....(I use this alot on the 6 month to yr and half olds.....like 400 to 1000 grams i guess....) (adults just eat or don't...up to them....)
:and yes I feed almost always live...or at least stunned prey....big balls just don't prefer dead or FT...(sorry...)...
:IF they are raised on dead fine--captive raised babies will take dead alot more readily than a just bought import or LTC...
:anyways....it all depends on room and reasons....(money or pet)...
