The Import/Export Process

Can someone please explain the whole import/export process?

From what I've read so far, the whole process starts with collectors (usually the natives of a country) who collect animals from the wild who sell the animals to exporters who then sell the animals to importers who ship the animals to the US (or Canada, Europe, etc.) then sell the animals to wholesalers or breeders who either keep and breed the animals or sell them to pet stores or private individuals.

Can anyone add any details? How are the animals shipped? What prices do the exporters pay the collectors? In your opinion, what's wrong with the cycle?
