It is a box turtle, most likely an eastern box. It appears to be female gong by the tail and plastron. The turtle looks badly chewed up...probably a small dog, but more likely a raccoon or possum tried to make a potential meal out of it. A bigger dog would have marked up much more than just the edges of the top shell. The white on the shell edges and plastron is exposed bone.
