What type of Snake?

5 feet long, medium green with darker strips running length of body with a triangular shaped head. White underneath head and apparantly continued under body. Laying in road, when provoked, coiled and struck. Then went into woods. We live in the southern coastal area of North Carolina, this was about a 1/4 mile from a salt water river. Have had lots of rain recently.
