I already bugged Andy about this, but I figure it can't hurt to ask other people.

I live in central Maryland, first off. Walking by a lake, I saw two tails on a bunch of rocks and jumped carefully next to them, but it was too late to get either. However, I did see a decent amount of them.

The one (female, I'm assuming) was about 3 to 4 feet, and somewhat thicker than a quarter. Dark, with no visible markings, and slightly keeled scales. I didn't get a look at the ventrals or sides, so I don't know if it was a banded water or not (typically they show red on the sides, the few I've seen up here).

The second one was, I would guess, about 2 feet long. I think it also had keeled scales, but I didn't get a good look at his larger scales. He was a rusty orange color, and also didn't seem to have any markings. After a bit, he came out and watched me watching him, and he definitely had a colubrid-type head (non-inflated). He didn't have any noticable neck.

Thanks for any responses, what I wouldn't have done for a snake hook then :) I'll have to try again in a week or two, and hopefully get pics!
