The reticulated collared lizards are not residents of the tip of Texas. They inhabit gravelly arroyos and rocky/brushy hillsides along the Rio Grande drainage farther west and north.
The areas in Webb and Maverick counties where I frequently see them are fairly remote and (except for that huge coal mine near Laredo) are little-used by people other than the Border Patrol and (both kinds of) Coyotes.
