I only have Massauga's and keep them for educational purposes. I don't have serum but I do have a plan. I have talked with the medical team that would first treat the victim so they are aware of the type of snake. We are an hour away from the hospital so they would be called before we left so they could be on hand and ready. Part of my plan also includes the fact that I am the only one who handles, feeds, or cleans these snakes. No one else is allowed to do these things. However, I don't do these things unless someone else is with me.
I have been handling venomous snakes since I was four and have never taken a bite which probably makes me more complacent than I should be . . . however, (and this may throw fat on the fire) I believe that handling techniques are vital to our safety and the safety of the snakes.
