State Park April 20th. It was 10:30 in the morning , 80 degrees. This 10-12 inch snake was on a trail 7 foot from the water . We walked right up to it within 3 foot. Typical for a cottonmouth it did not move but was aware of us. A regular water snake would have moved quicker than Carl Moses. Copperhead like pattern when they are this young which darkens with age. I think this was a 3-6 month old snake. In the humidity and mild winters of the Houston Area I believe that a lot of native live birth species here breed in the fall and may deliver in November. Although we had a colder winter than normal as a lot of the country did.
