finding copperheads...?

I live in SE Ohio, and I was wandering first of all, if anyone knows about a copperhead population, how dense or sparse...ect. If there is any around, where, and when would I look for them. I know most people find them around piles of junk, under tin, or wood slabs. Is this how I want to go about it here?
