::Any of the large Bitis would not be good first time hots. Starting with something that would give you a wider margin for error would be prudent. One other thing you might want to consider: If the snake is exotic, you ought to either have your own antivenin (ten or more vials) or know for a fact that a local hospital has it. Most do not.
