I genrally keep snakes by themselves, but these were breeding. Man this sucks.

:Sorry to hear that. I've been keeping Naja kaouthia for many years pairwise, and although not having lost one yet, I know that problems can arise, even if the animals are regularly fed. I've seen aggressive specimens attacking the cagemate when aroused, typically biting at or right behind the head and performing sort of a death-role, not unlike the one known from crocs. Although they are insensitive to their own venom, this may cause serious, even fatal injuries, possibly due to choking or spine injuries. My feeling is that it would be best to keep (all) snakes solitair - being well aware that space limitations preclude this in many instances (as in my case).
