CA has made keeping venomous snakes illegal. There are a select few people spread around the state designated by Fish and Game to keep venomous but mainly for future court exhibits. As a side benefit, these people can also keep their own venomous. LA is worse in that you are supposed to have a license to keep any snakes as I understand it. They did not have such a provision when I lived in LA. The immediate official response for any snake not needed in court is to kill it. I know it rankles but that's it.
