I've often wondered the same thing. I'm not quite sure. I don't really see why not besides wouldn't the two breed (cross breed)and I think that some of the different species have different requirements and such. I'm not sure about the two that you mentioned because I have a Mali. Hopefully someone else will answer your questions.
