do you only have rocks in there.
Are there hiding spots in the tank, they like to hide themselves.
My Aegyptian is also 3 years old, they need los of room...

My cage is appr. 7 x 3 x 3 ft, it has lots of hiding places,
you can se one under the rock he sits on.
On the other side of the cage ther are 4 more hiding spots...
