Yes, ether is very flammable but it is not as dangerous as you would think. It was the first anesthetic used by doctors in the Victorian era when performing serious operations on people. Before then, they'd get you drunk first but the person still suffered from shock. Ether should be used in a well-ventilated area. Highschool biology labs use it too. I think you may be thinking about Chlorine gas which is EXTREMELY deadly! (I don't think ether was used for making drugs but I've heard rumors about household cleaners containing bleach being used). Regardless, it is still a big decision and one that shouldn't be made in haste. You have to make sure you've exhausted all your options first otherwise you might regret what you will have done.
