THE JOURNAL (Newcastle, UK) 11 September 02 Tearaway terrapin gets back in the swim
Can Jonny be good? It would seem he can.
Jonny the tearaway terrapin was last week banished from the pond at Dobbies Garden Centre, in Ponteland, after customers told staff that he had been seen chasing fish and generally creating mayhem in the water.
But after checks with reptile experts, who confirmed that the unwanted turtle would not harm the centre's Koi carp, Jonny - named after a member of Dobbies' staff who he apparently resembles - was given another chance to enjoy life in the Dobbies pond.
Now he is the exotic star attraction at the pond where Ponteland people are allowed to leave their unwanted fish. The foot-long terrapin will be allowed the run of the lake until the winter, when he will be taken inside.
