You realize, of course, that Big Bend NP is about as far from Dallas as Dallas is from Pensacola, FL (or Miami to Pensacola if you want a Floridian reference). It isn't a short drive. Of course you can get into the Trans-pecos region and its incredible herps within about 350 miles of the DFW area.
